As a director, she created iconographic images. After the Second World War, she consistently sought to deny her ideological affinity with the Nazi regime, strictly denying any interaction between her art, which celebrated beauty, health, and strength, and the regime's terror. Leni Riefenstahl allowed only one portrayal of her biography: her own. The estate of one of the most controversial women of the 20th century tells a different story. Private films and photos, recorded telephone conversations with close companions, and personal letters: for the first time, award-winning documentary film director Andres Veiel and TV journalist Sandra Maischberger were granted access to Riefenstahl's personal estate, which consists of 700 crates. They have set themselves the task of taking a deeper look into the life and work of Leni Riefenstahl. The aesthetics of her images are more present today than ever before – and with them, their message?
